MANUAL FOR LIFE: Styling The Breton

The Breton stripe is a timeless design first introduced in 1858 as the uniform for the French Navy. The unique pattern was made up of 21 stripes each representing one of Napoleon Bonaparte’s victories. Designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier and Coco Chanel have suede Breton stripes in their collections and style icon James Dean made it famous in Rebel Without a Cause in 1955.

Today, it's a wardrobe staple that can provide an instant hit of summer to any outfit and still keep you warm during the cooler evenings. This is our guide on how to wear our Breton this season.

The Weekender

Made from 100% Organic cotton, the 170g jersey is finished with soft-touch elbow patches in navy blue and a unique collar weld offering a layered look and cleaner neckline. The iconic 21 stripes run horizontally with a more intense band around the chest to create a flattering silhouette.

Pair our long sleeve Breton with our grey cardigan. A versatile chunky knit and a pair of jeans, this is a casual, comfortable and versatile style for any occasion.
