19th century France was the birthplace of the original ‘bleu de travai’ (blue work) chore jackets, simple garments made from hard-wearing cotton. They made the perfect workers' jacket with two large pockets to store tools, a loose fit, and a shorter length than a standard jacket to stop it from getting caught in machinery. Often made from hardy cotton, the chore was built to last and withstand the tough demand of physical jobs, with tears and holes simply patched up with whatever they could lay their hands on. It had a boxed fit and shorter crop so it could be worn with overalls and other workwear attire.
Throw on for an evening stroll or dinner date – this colour is sophisticated and highlights the style and confidence that only comes with maturity. Our homage to the classic French Blue Work jacket - the BLUE BOLT is a simple box cut cotton jacket that we’ve put through numerous washes to produce an authentic ‘worn in’ fade and patina to the indigo-dyed cotton twill. Unlike the stiff hard cut French work jackets of the 1800’s - The BLUE BOLT is a much softer, tactile cloth that is comfortable to wear, with freedom of movement while being hard-wearing enough for work.
We’ve retained the traditional box-cut, shorter arms and signature four pocket detailing but with a cotton twill blend, which gives the jacket a softer, less restrictive feel.

We have further perfected the wash technique to give it an authentic 'lived in' look while introducing an opening to the back of the pockets to offer even more functionality. Our best-selling Crafter ‘CHORE’ Jacket is made from 80% heavy cotton twill, 17% poly, and 3% stretch for comfort and ease of movement.

Heavy cotton twill and a deep army green combine in the Carver chore jacket to create a practical workwear coat that looks as much at home leaning against a bar as it does to s complete one's Saturday chores. Made from 100% cotton twill by this, it features a button-down collar, detail button cuffs, elbow patches and a practical configuration of pockets for convenient access, with a discreet &SONS logo on the front to complement its minimalist style.
The cut and fit are identical to its green counterpart, yet the Blue is more solid without the heavy vintage wash. This means the jacket will naturally fade over time, and high-wear areas will produce authentic, one-of-a-kind scars. Perfect for walking the dogs on a Saturday afternoon or kicking back in the garden this is a relaxed jacket.
