The Elder Henley: Origins and Styling

Base-layers and T-shirts don't have to be boring. And with the balance of rugged, raw aesthetics, super-soft cotton and an iconic silhouette, it’s easy to see why the Henley Shirt has become a staple in a Pioneers winter wardrobe.

Worn solo or as part of a layered outfit, the versatile, timeless piece is ideal for the changing seasons. The only rule is to be bold with colour. Our vintage washed Henleys inject some dialled back colour into an outfit and mix well with contrasting hues like black and indigo.

"My second long sleeve New Elder Henley, this time in Blue. Just love it. Quality is outstanding. My wardrobe is constantly growing. Can't get enough from you guys - brilliant, thank you."

- A Fellow Pioneer

Be Bold With Colour

A Henley shirt is a collarless pullover shirt, characterized by a round neckline and a placket about 3 to 5 inches (8 to 13 cm) long and usually has 2–5 buttons.

The name originates from Henley-on-Thames where rowers wore the jerseys as part of their uniform. Rowers favoured the Henley as it was easier to take on and off due to the 3 buttons on the collar but also because of increased ventilation from the placket and lack of collar.

This is a striking addition to your wardrobe, basic but bold enough to add some personality to your look.

The Perfect Partnership

Our Elder Henley and Lincoln Waistcoat is a great pairing and one of our Pioneer's favourite combinations.

Or try it with the Surplus Jacket, Hudson boots and an Atlantic Watch-Cap Beanie.

Endless looks that can be layered up or pared back whatever the occasion. Mix and match the palettes to inject colour into your winter wardrobe and add layers as the temperature drops.
