Every hat has been hand-made and finished using age-old techniques that produce a unique, one-of-a-kind patina, rich in character. For some, this will become their go-to hat all year round, for others, a statement, worn only a handful of times. But believe us gents, this hat is made for the true Pioneer, willing to step outside the norm.
We worked alongside Octav, The Hat Butcher to create a silhouette now famous in the world of cowboy hats - the Montana Crease. This shape is typical of many cowboy hats and named after the state of Montana where it originated but, has its own nuances. The pinch on both sides is less pronounced and smaller which gives the hat a unique shape. The dent across the top is more pronounced than other styles which creates a shorter looking hat and sits balanced on the head. We have finished the hat using our famous IKAT patterned cotton, complete with a leather toggle that features the &SONS branding.
Octav takes between 4-5 days to produce each hat, painstakingly moulding the material over vintage blocks before individually adding his signature distressing.
At its core, "The Hat Butcher" hats are a blend of old and new with different kinds of stories and feelings, textures and scents... trying to keep alive this old trade.
I am a self-taught hat maker from Bucharest, Romania, who comes from a family with a heritage in craftsmanship, starting with my grandfather who was a shoe-maker.
I was introduced by my father to the world of movies and music and this is how I discovered the western spaghetti movies. The western hats and old styles of clothing triggered a passion for hats from an early age.
The learning process involves many hours of practice and the deconstruction of old hats and then trying to make them up again.
