Mental health is very close to our hearts at &SONS. I, for one, have been fighting against depression for many years. I’m from a generation where men never spoke about their feelings, cried, or hugged.
We indeed never spoke about our physical or mental health. So even now, at 53, I find it hard to talk about, but the more people do, the more we can help each other.
Thankfully times have changed, and the fantastic people at Movember are leading this change. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects worldwide, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average five years earlier than women for largely preventable reasons.
A growing number of men – around 10.8M globally – are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides. Movember is uniquely placed to address this crisis on a global scale. They fund groundbreaking projects worldwide, engaging with men to understand what works best and accelerate change.
Because of this amazing work, we wanted to collaborate with Movember and help their cause as much as possible. We are looking forward to some fantastic projects with them and helping to bring about some positive change for all the pioneers out there. Watch this space...
