While many cultures have developed distinct Ikat traditions, it is in India - particularly in regions like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat - that Ikat weaving has established deep cultural and artistic roots. Unlike printed textiles, Ikat patterns are created by resist-dyeing the yarns before weaving. This pre-dyeing process results in the characteristic soft, feathered or blurred edges of the design, which are unique to the craft.
